LYME, CT. NOVEMBER. 7TH- Sankow’s Beaver Brook farm is hosting its 28th annual FARM DAY on Saturday November 25th from 11am to 4pm at 139 Beaver Brook Road in Lyme, CT. The event provides the opportunity to bring the family together to celebrate 100 years of the Sankow’s Beaver Brook Farm as well as support local businesses in Connecticut. The open house features activities for people of all ages.
Activities for the family include wagon hayrides, live music, wool spinning and sock making demonstrations. The Farm Market and Wool Shop will be open during the event and will feature a variety of artisanal sheep and cow’s milk dairy products and meats as well as new wool products including wool socks, capes and cape sweaters. Food and drinks will be served: lamb and chicken sausage sandwiches, Abbey, Pleasant Cow and Pleasant Son mac & cheese, lamb and white bean chili as well as chicken corn chowder. Hot chocolate and cider will also be available.
Buzzell Sankow bought the land 100 years ago for $2,000. The farm remained a dairy farm until the milk industry in New England collapsed around 35 years ago. In 1984 Stan and Suzanne Sankow introduced sheep to the 175-acre setting. They began with two, named Sherry and Ding, which were a gift from Stan to Suzanne. Now, the farm is home to a dozen Jersey Cows alongside the 600 sheep.
The Sankow’s invite the public to see the animals; including over 600 sheep and learn the history of the Sankow farm. Discover how the farm products are produced and used. Suzanne Sankow says “Stan and I are blessed to have been the custodians of Beaver Brook Farm for the last 50 years.”
